About The Artist

Marianne Beckwith is a Saint John, New Brunswick artist whose work is deeply rooted in community, memory, and place. A lifelong Saint Johner with strong family and community ties, Marianne is known for capturing the landmarks, streetscapes, and everyday scenes that define the city’s collective memory, including many beloved local places that no longer exist. Her nostalgic series of Saint John paintings resonates strongly with people across the region, often sparking stories, memories, and connections to the city’s past.

Her art reflects the same warmth and familiarity she brings to everyday life. Rarely able to walk through town without stopping to chat with someone she knows, Marianne’s connection to the community is woven into every piece she creates. Her work can be found not only in homes across the city, but also painted onto sidewalks, in many businesses and public spaces across the city, and many other unexpected corners of Saint John itself.

A lifelong learner and endlessly curious creative, Marianne continues to expand her artistic practice through classes with fellow local artists, plein air painting, and collaborative works. She approaches creativity with enthusiasm and generosity, even treating her own home as an evolving canvas, regularly painting and reimagining spaces like her stairway entrance and garage with colour and personality. Her work celebrates not only what Saint John looks like, but what it feels like to belong here.
